My company has applied for GC (Labor) when i was around 400 days away from my 6 years H1 limit. I assume that i can get extensions of 1 year after the end of 6 years od H1-b.

Lets say , for whatever reason, i decided not to get extension and go back to my country and my company is still willing to keep my GC process alive, can they do this? Do they have to do something special to keep the process alive or they just have to let it process as normal?

Yes you can do it. The process is similar & no special requirements.. Only thing is you should be working in the similar job category back home also & must be able to provide proof of that if required. Once you go back home, you will not be eligible for I485/EAD.. you will have to go for CP.
