Sorry this may be a wrong subject. However I need your advice.

I lost my new GC together with my wallet. Anyone can advise
me how long it will take to get another one and how much
it may cost?

Sorry to hear that. If you are inside the U.S., file Form I-90 with your local INS office. Detailed instructions are on the form.Check this Link for details on what to do. Cost is 130$.

Good to see you back on this forum. But, I'm really sorry to hear that you lost your GC.

Apply I-90 using the link provided by SAI.

Per latest VSC report, they are processing 10/22/2002 I-90 to replace lost, damaged or destroyed I-551.

Thanks to All!

Hi sai-2367, Edison, and st8:

Thanks for the valuable advice!

I guess I'll have to wait for another year to get a replacement
GC (since the VSC is now processing replacement cards requested about a year ago) ?

The thief probably took the cash from my wallet and then threw
the rest of the wallet (with my GC inside) away to hide their crime.

Clueless123 Sorry to hear that,

Just feel better thinking that :
If a citizen picked your pocket, he won't need your GC anyway :D

I lost my wallet but my driver's licence was mailed to me.

Maybe the thief/someone who finds your wallet will mail you the GC.

Safe deposit box

I think it is best to keep the GCs in a safe deposit box while in town (or atleast leave it at home in a safe place). If you are traveling outside of US, then keep it alongwith your passport and not in the wallet.
We are more protective of our passports than wallets!!

My suggestion!!

Can BCIS do me a favor?

I really appreciate the advice from all of you! This forum has
supported me through each step in my long-wait. Even after
I got my GC, I feel I still need it.

My online status reads:

>> On October XX, 2003, the card order was completed and we
>> mailed the applicant's new card directly to him or her. If 14
>> days have passed and you have not received this card, you
>> may wish to verify or update your address. To update your

It seems that the BCIS has a backup GC ? - In case the applicant
does not receive his/her card in 14 days, the BCIS will send
him/her another one?

Shall I call the BCIS to ask them to send the backup GC to me
since I lost it soon after I got it? Do you think the BCIS will do that for me?

Clueless123,
thats your best chance. Report that you never received it. Then the paper work may be going thru different dept/office and you may receive it much faster.

goodluck

I would also agree that you call BCIS and let them know that you have not received the card. This will be faster.

Also - just as an FYI - never carry your original GC\EAD or AP with you - carry a photo copy of these if you are paranoid about being asked for them. You always have at least 24 hours to reproduce the orginal. And with a photocopy your details will be available if required (eg A#, address etc)

I leave all of my stuff in a safe. When I do go on vacation I leave at an available safety deposit box (either at the house I am at or at the hotel)

Good Luck.

Do not lie with INS/BCIS

Clueless123

Do not lie with INS/BCIS regarding the Green Card stating you did not received the GC in mail. If they found you are providing false information, they may even cancel your GC.

Beter wait for one year and get a replacement. If you want to travel out of US you can use the passport stamping.

Hope this helps you....
