GC holder that used to be asylees

Could people who have received their GC who once used to be asylee share their experience of renewing their national passport and/or travelling to you home country for a short trip for a genuine reason. Did you used Re Entry permit or RTD or national passport. How was the experience coming back at the POE.

You should check out the Asylum Forum on this website, there is a lot of discussion on traveling back to the home country with a GC ( if you got your GC through asylum status) and people's experience with renewing your national passport. If you can't renew it for some reason from your own country's consulate general in the States, you can apply for the re-entry permit or other documents the INS issues.
