GC holder filed for extension to stay outside US

Hi,

About 2 years back I got my US GC based on family sponsorship. I have not yet completely moved to the US. I am required to visit the US once every year to maintain my GC status and next visit is due in February 2004. I have filed for extension of my stay in my home country. It has been a year since I have filed but the status says that it takes about one and half years to process such applications.

I want to understand the implications that may arise if I do not visit US during Feb2004 to maintain the GC status. Will I loose my GC? Can anything be done with the application I have filed a year back for extension? Is there any other alternative?

Any comments will be appreciated.

Regards
Vivek

You cannot maintain your GC status by simply *visiting* US, you will have to live permanently in the US. Your absence from US should be a temporary one. If the immigration officer learns of your trick, you will be refused admission into US.
