GC - Future Employment

I have a question. Is there any one who has done this?

I work for company X (who holds my H1 and processing my GC).
The client Y who I work at currently, wants to hire me.

I have heard the cases called "Future Employment" - Company X keeps processing your GC but you join the company Y.

I'm on my 7th year extension.
Can someone tell me if this is( future employment) doable in my case

yes it can be done provided company X is cooperative.

remember that you HAVE to join company X after GC is approved unless you qualify for ac-21 gc portability with new employer.
