GC for spouse through US Citizen - living together abroad

Hello, I am just trying to get a few questions answered for our general knowledge as we have not decided on anything quite yet.

My husband and I have been married for over 2 years, we met and married abroad and have only been back to the States for family visits.

We are currently expecting our first child and have been thinking that we might want to relocate to the States permanently.

After doing some research on the subject, I understand that I would need to show U.S. tax returns for the past few years in order to sponsor him - which is impossible since I haven't worked in the States (or at all - have been working on a degree/license) for quite a few years and my husband has been the sole provider.

The only other co-sponsors I could think of are my parents - but they are retired.. w/income - but retired.

We do have savings which we can show - would showing X amount of money in our joint bank account allow us to forgo the sponsorship requirement? - If so how much?

Leaving my husband here and re-establishing residency/finding employment back in the States is only something I would consider if I could manage it in a month or two since we really don't want to be apart for that long especially with a new baby.. and even then - would I be able to use my parents as co-sponsors?

I know another option may be going in on a tourist visa (him), with him not working while I find employment/re-establish residency - and then applying for change of status after that is taken care of - is that a realistic option considering we have a place to stay w/my parents and can handle it financially or will it be frowned upon when applying for change of status since it would seem as if it was the intention form the get go??

Would really appreciate some answers - and I apologize for the long post!

thanks!

Retirement income such as pension and Social Security can be used for the support requirements.

Yes if you have enough money it can reduce or eliminate the income requirement. Whatever is the annual income requirement for your household size (presumably 3 -- you plus your spouse and new baby), multiply that by 5 and you wouldn't need to show any US income. So for a household size of 3, that would be 5 times $22,888 = $114,440. Other non-cash assets can also be added in, if they meet certain conditions for liquidity/sellability.

Thanks for the reply! I was starting to feel lonely here.. ;)
As far as household size - is it counted the same way as for tax purposes - i.e. expenses/dependents or is it per address..?
Jut wondering since if we do decide to move back we would probably end up staying w/my parents in the beginning until we get established, but we would be managing our own household.. so would that count as 5 or 3? (I know for tax purposes filing would be done separately).

Thanks!
