GC for parents of USC - please use this thread

Hi Folks,

I am starting this thread for those of you who are USC and are applying for GC for parents. Please post your experiences and your knowledge. Which route is better/faster - applying from the US through AOS or from India through CP? What are the pros and the cons? Also, please post the timelines for Chennai.

Interview woes at Chennai consulate

Hi All:

My parents appeared for interview at Chennai on June 9th. They carried all the documents with them as per the 485 package they received. Everything went smoothly but for one thing. My parents had overstayed in US on 2 occassions in the past 10 years when they were visitors here. On both occassions they did get an authorization from INS for extension of stay. So the consulate caught this and wanted to see the original approval notices. So they issued a RFE. Unfortunately, we lost them and are now in trouble!!
We are trying to get duplicates from INS but we dont have WAC#s for those approval notices. You need these numbers to fill out the form I-824 to apply for duplicate approval notices. If we cant get this, I think some kind of written evidence from INS stating my parents had approval notices for the periods of overstay should work. I was wondering if anyone heard of a similar incident or if anyone has experience getting this kind of duplicates from INS. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Your another alternate may be "G-639" if you have any information avilable where you applied or date applied. This is worth a try it may take while but sometime it works. you get all paper work copy.
