Hello all

I have a question about applying for GC for my parents and my brother. Any idea how much time it takes. Also, somebody told me it is faster for the parents than it is for siblings. Is that true ?

Thanks

Yes it is true. For siblings it is taking around 13 years or so , varies...

parents get it faster
siblings atleast get it even after a decade
ex girl friend may need to wait 35 years or so
ex neighbor may need to wait 55 years or so :D

There is no quota for parents of US citizens, so the processing time is all that matters in this case.
Applications for siblings of US citizens are in Family Category 4, which has a PD of 1995 and goes back all the way to 1983 for some countries. So that will take a long time.

The only thing I would add to JoeF answer is that the situation will be different if your sibling would be underage - in that case he would be able to immigrate as fast as your parents (with your parents).

Fyi : A friend of mine brought his Mexican parents to the U.S within 7 months, a GC for my brother from Western Europe would take 20 years or so (... not worth considering it)

Well, there are other options for Mexicans. Around 12 million of them will be using the fast track with no retrogression on account of country quota limits either:)

You are refering to the indocumented immigrants .... actually it is a misperception that all of the estimated 11-12 mio undocumented immigrants would be Mexicans. I read in the Time Magazine a few weeks ago that the number would be around 50% of them.

On another statistic it was said that 40% of the Mexicans would like to live in the United States ... the remaining 60% are already here

1. Assuming you meant that the Mexican parents of your friend came with a seven month old child, I can't help it not to make the comment that they are reproducing up to the age of 95 just to met the quota of 12 children per family :D :D

2. If you meant that took them 7 months to come over, I have to say those Mexicans were really slow...it usually takes a half of a night to cross the California's southern border, or maybe less than an hour to cross Rio Grande
:D :D

:) He would have been one active infant ... I have to correct his life story to 'within 7 months' he brought his parents legally to the U.S. ;)

Good joke :D :D :D

Unfortunately the the real situation is not far from this joke

The official statistics says that in the U.S. are 11 millions illegals; 6.5 millions are from Mexico, 2.5 millions are from other central and south American countries...and the 2.5 millions left are from the rest of the globe...no wonder the Mexicans don't want to speak English, at this pace we'll have to learn Spanish
