GC during Residency

I have heard some attorney and residency program are willing to sponsor residency candidates, to apply for GC during residency. Is it possible to process your GC before you complete you Residency. Or is it possible to make it overlap so after completion of your MD you can get the GC in a few months.

Incorrect Info

Residency does not equate to a permanent job offer-so, residency programs can\'t sponsor someone for a Greencard-the only caveat being if the resident is offered a faculty position in the program. In that case the scenario narrated above may work-through a labor certification. The other option is to apply for NIW if you are doing a residency at a HPSA/MUA area; then you can find work in the same area or other MUA/HPSA to total 5 years of work in underserved area and get a green card. The best option is to get into a residency program with a H1b visa and then get a greencard through labor certification once you are done with the residency.

Please Advice

I too did not think it was possible. But on enquiring I found the 2nd year residents are already in the 2nd stage of processing the GC(I140). When I checked with the residents the told me they offer to anyone who is intrested. But the lawyer fees are $7000. I do not know how they go about it, but the residents said it is only possible if you have your step 3 results and you had to apply for state liscense befor applying for H1. Also the hospital has promised with all the paperwork.
Also the GC is based on the notion of future employment. So even if an employment contract is required its not for the present ,its when you get the GC you have to join them.

Please give me your critical feedback. As I want to know if anyone has suceeded through this route. I do not want to risk my time and money and realise later it was a wasted efforts. I would really like if an immigration Attorney could clear this dought for us all.
