GC application question - master's vs Ph.D

I'm currently working on my Ph.D dissertation and will defend in a few months. Meantime I have accepted a job offer. I want to start my GC application as early as possible. I consulted with the company immigration lawyer and he told me I can start the LC process right now - because I have already earned a master's degree in US and the company will sponsor me at EB2 based on the master's degree. My questions is: would a Ph.D degree give me any advantage over a master's degree in applying for employment-based GC, at any point of the whole LC, 140 and 485 process?

Thanks in advance for your help!
