GC and Extended Unemployment Benefits...Food for Thought.

While a case can be made that a recently approved GC holder may not be considered a public charge if that person uses unemployment benefits, since unemployment insurance is paid for by employers and, in NJ, employees. My issue is this. The Federal government recently approved the program for extended unemployment benefits, which is totally federally-funded. If a recently approved GC holder avails of extended unemployment benefits, will that leave this person open to being considered a \'public charge\'. By the way, to the maliciously minded, no, I am presently working and do not have unemployment benefits. To those who don\'t what is \'public charge\', don\'t bother asking.

You can find the definition of "public charge"
for teh purpose of deportation with google search.
It is much narrower than recieving public assistance.
recipients of unemployment benefits, WIC, Food stamp,
CHIP, etc are not considered public charge.
