Hi All ,
I am facing a small dilemma.
I was suppose to land in Canada this month to complete my permanent resience formalites and apply for PR card etc. In the mean time I got my I-485 got approved and also got the stamping done on my passport in June 2004.
I need your advice - Now since I have a Green card would it be worthwhile to travel to Canada to get the immigration done. Or should I forgo the Canadian process to avoid any difficulties in future.
Please suggest at earliest as I am still holding on to my airtravel tickets to Canada.

Thanks.

Don't bother landing that way you can save the landing fee. But its your decision based on your plans for the future.

If you have your US approval before landing, I would abandon the Canadian process. You may get your application fee back or maybe just the landing fee - I dont remember - just check. You do not want any evidence in your record, of intent to abandon the permanent resident alien status in the us.

By not landing in Canada you could only get your landing fee back.

Some people think that maintaining dual permanent residency could endanger US LPR for having Canadian PR card could be considered as an intent to abandon US residence. I personally disagree and would be maintaining dual LPR status eventually becoming dual citizen.

You could read more on the subject here http://boards.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?threadid=105792.

As for your situation, you already have your passport stamped by Canadians, so theoretically "you are already screewed". So in situation like this I would wait with landing until after GC interview and passport being stamped by US. Then I would decide if it's worth for me to try to maintain dual LPR for with US requirements more strict it would be quite hard, thought possible, to get dual citizenship in 8-9 years.
