Please advice...

One of my friends is undergoing a lot of stress and difficulty on account of her inability to get a divorce. She is struggling to get some information and advice that might help her since she is living in the US and her husband is in India. It will be greatly appreciated if the readers can share their experience or offer some suggestions that could help her. Thank you in advance.

She is in the final stages of her GC and expects to receive the same in a few months time. She has been here in the US for the last four years. She got married in India six years ago and the marriage was registered with the local Indian church. (They are both Christians).

Her husband is in India and had come here once for a brief stay (
 
From what you say divorce process has started in India

1) ... so in all likely hood it may not be possible to start another parallel process in the US unless the case in India is withdrawn and a ruling passed to that effect.

2) Read somewhere that Indian courts do not recognise divorces granted in US, there are some stricter reasons for separation there.

Yes. The divorce process was started in India few years ago.

She is pretty much willing to start all over again from the US, if need be. If that involves withdrawing the case in India, she has to do it. But the important thing is assessing the probability of getting it done successfully from the US.
