Gap between EAD and H1b what happens? Out of status?

My EAD expires on 6/30/2001. At the same day my current company submitted H1b application to INS and after that my status was pending. However, since the oversight of forgetting to submit original copy of LCA required by INS\'s RFE, my 1st H1b petition was denied on 12/5/2001. When my company realized it, they immediately submit the second H1b petion and it was approved on 12/11/2002. And I got new I-94 for H1b later and the validity date starts on 12/11/2001.
So my question is whether I was ever out of status during 6/30/2001 and 12/11/2001. Can I go to Canada and apply for the visa? Thanks in advance.
 
I did not work

I did not work from 7/1/01 till 12/10/01. So do that mean I was not out of status. Thanks for Andy Garcia.
