A great day for Legal Immigrants

Hi Every One,
We, the Core Team of this forum, are pleased to announce the arrival of immigrationportal.org, a new organization to fight for the causes of legal immigrants.
We anticipate our activities to include matters such as working with the United States Congress for improving the immigration laws, working with USCIS for reducing the backlog of all types of immigration applications, working with the state and federal agencies to fight the type of discrimination cases we have seen with New Jersey DMV, etc.. To achieve all these results, we need a strong organization with enough funds so that we can pay for the legal and other organizational expenses.

We believe, one of our first goals should be to hire a full time, professional employee/contractor to work for us. Having a professional person working for us 7/24 will help our cause a great deal. So we ask every one to go to our new website www.immigrationportal.org and donate money for this, your cause. Let us not passively tolerate injustice. We must act.

Let me add a little bit of background to this organization. For the past 9 months, we have been discussing ways to fight the I485 backlogs. About 4 months back, we decided to take a long term approach for this problem and started working towards forming an organization. Rajiv S. Khanna, our host, helped us in registering the organization and he has accepted to be present as a director in the board. The other members on the board of directors are : 140_takes_4ever, ayansgp, dsatish, Edison, frantic, kash777, Kashmir, MrCoolz, rajum, rk4gc, tr22 and yjay. The actual names of these people can be found on the website. All these people have been actively working in the VSC/CSC/NSC/TSC I485 forums for the past year and more. We (the board members) will not take any remuneration and we will not claim any reimbursement for the time we have spent on the activities. We are doing it as a service and what motivates us is our passion and excitement of starting perhaps the first organization to work for the rights of legal immigrants. This organization belongs to all the legal immigrants. The name and the URL of the organization have been licensed from Mr. Khanna at the fee of one dollar ($1.00) per annum. His office is providing the initial facilities such as phone, fax numbers and street address. Note that nobody owns this organization and every year, the board members will be elected by the registered members of this people’s organization.

We are ready to answer any questions. Please visit (y)our website and donate generously. Most of the core team members have donated $200 each, but there are no rules governing how much every one should donate. Please donate according to your wish and keep visiting the new forum for discussions about our activities.

DSatish, Edison,

immigrationportal.org is The best bet we have of galvanizing and organizing the (benumbed?) community of legal immigrants.

However, notwithstanding the impressive figures of 70,000 + registered members, we have, as you have periodically pointed out, fallen woefully short of amassing signatures and contributions so far in our various campaigns.

In full acknowledgement of my own limited contribution to the cause we espouse, I do however, feel compelled to point out some obvious weakness in the current structure.

Our current structure is still too 'bulletin board' oriented. Though this is nice for sharing information it woefully lacks structure and organization.

When I checked out www.immigrationportal.org website, I realized that most good ideas are already implemented there( Kudos to the unknown volunteers who designed it and set it up). These are:

1) A good clean, uncluttered website informing visitors of our goals and current campaigns.

2) Easy links to users for information (bulletin board, FAQ etc)

3) Prominent and easy to use link for online contribution.

4) Full information and disclosure of people involved in managing the activities.

5) Easy to use links for volunteering.

How do we recouncile the structured and logical website with the chaotic bulletin board?

I have a couple of simple suggestions (Ignored so far)

A) Currently there are too many 'points of entry' to the bulletin board. Restrict this to immigrationportal.com! People should ONLY be able to log on to bulletin boards from a link on immigrationportal.com.

B) ONLY registered users should be able to brouse the forums.

C) Clean up immigrationportal.com 's main page to display 2-3 pertinent sub-divisions - The current litigation, suggestions, other projects, general board, with further subdivisions within each as is currently done.

I only need to point out websites like www.aflcio.org and www.fair.org to point out what we are up against. We need to have at least a modicum of 'marketing' mindset - a free-wheeling 'vent-a-thon' is going to get us absulutely nowhere. Period.

Again, I wish to disabuse all who interpret this post as the supercilious rants of a grandiose pedant - I only wish to open a discussion - bouquets or brickbats, anything welcome.

Marketing "ImmigrationPortal.org"

We have to do more advertising about "immigrationportal.org"...,of course without paying MONEY
some of my suggestions for marketing:
1>Word of Mouth..
Tell to friends colleagues at work places who are legal immigrants,
Gc holders etc

Tell to your wife/spouse and college going kids to spread about
what immigration portal do

2>paste some print outs at immigrants neighbourhoods..

at apartments-- landry rooms, market places like oak tree, subzimandi,Indian and Chinese markets&grocery shops..
It's legal to say about our organization and ask to web site ..Right..

3>use Internet..

Use immigration portal site whever you post on Internet, do not limit to immigration sites, for example ..when you post some thing
at MSDN sites or JAVA forums or OTN ... wherever ...USE EVERY OPPORTUNITY...it takes only few moew seconds....Right

4>Improve Immigrationportal.org web site

Add more links/pointers to other useful information for legal immigrants .. like documents for various filings.. H1,visitors visa,I140,485 etc.. issues to different filings.. we need not post all of them... we should give pointers..

MAKE IMMIGRATIONPORTAL.ORG as BASIC INFORMATION PORTAL FOR LEGAL IMMIGRANTS...
