From tourist to employed?

I went to graduate school in the US, but have now been back in my country for a couple of years.
I was planning to go back to the US (I have a tourist visa) and try to find an employer that would sponsor me--I know it would be hard.

Suppose I was successful in obtaining an employer willing to sposor me. Would I then go back to my country and try to get the H-1B?
How long might this take?

Any advice?

Thanks

You will have to go home once the visa that you are using to visit the USA to find work expires. If you are successful finding an employer to sponser you for a H1-B, your employer will fill in all the necessary paperwork and submit it by the April 2008 deadline. If your application is successful then you will be issued with a H1-B visa which you will use to start work in October 2008. You have to be aware that the number of visas issued per fiscal year is capped, and this was reached on the first day. The successful applicants were subject to a 'lottery style' selection process therefore many who had indeed found an employer did not actually get a visa.
Good luck
