From J1 to GC

Hi,
I am on F1 and hope to get in residency next year. I needed to know if I hvae to take J1 visa during residency and during this time I get my GC processed as a dependant (My wife is on H1 and is getting the GC processed), do I still have to go out of the country after my J1 expires?
Please let me know.

You SHOULD try NOT to get a J-1. rather try for an H-1.

if u go on J-1, u will have to go back to ur country or get a waiver for 3 years, even if u r able to get a GC th' ur wife.
 
AVOID J-1 AT ALL COST. IT IS A CURSE. IT WILL BE TROUBLE EVEN IF YOU GOT MARRIED TO A US CITIZEN. IT IS BEST TO WAIT FOR H-1 OR EAD.
