Hi,

I have been on H1B for last 7years and wanted to use my EAD from now on.

What should I do? Do I need to notify any one about this transfer(from H1B to EAD).

Any input from any one who started using EAD (from H1B) is appreciated.

Thanks

U don't need to do anything. Just keep a record of all your EADs from now on, in case there is a question by CIS later. Also, make sure you have a new EAD card IN HAND before the previous one expires. Unlike H1, EAD is not applicable till you get the damned card in hand.

Thanks atlantabhopali. I will follow this.

Also, if you so desire, you can file a new I-9 with your HR and use EAD as your proof of employment. That will make it absolutely iron-clad that you desire to use EAD and want to let your H1 lapse. (Though as per some, even after using EAD, your H1 does not go away).

You should file a new I-9

Actually it's your employer's duty to keep your record updated. Your employer's HR department should ask you for a copy of your EAD and make sure it's valid, and remind you when it's about to expire.
In the past nobody cared too much about it, but lately, it's wise for us to keep the record straight.
Suggestion: If you want to leave the H1B status for EAD, file a new I-9.
You may want to keep your H1B status as a fallback in case something goes wrong with your AOS (it's expensive, but a good idea specially if your job requires traveling abroad). Then don't do anything, to your employer you still would be an H1B.
