from England to the US

I am new to this site.
I just have a question.
Is it even realisitc to attempt to come to the US from England with the hopes of staying? I have a friend who loves this country and wants to legally move here. What does she have to do.
She is single and has no relatives here. Is it even possible for her to even contemplate a move...and if so.. how long if anyone knows.
I am sorry if I sound ignorant of all the verbage. As I stated, this is my first time here.

Thank you so much for the information.
It is very helpful.
She has come to the US a few times.
Fortunately we dont attend tourist centers.
Right now that is a place to be avoided.
She was here for three months over the summer and loves the surroundings etc. One drawback for her is, that she doesnt seem to be able to work here like she would like to. Of course we all know that people marry a citizen for residency, however she is not willing to to anything illegally, or on the dark side.
