Friends, do you think this lying is a serious problem?

We just moved to a new place. Our EAD/AP were approved days after we reported address change and just several days before we moved. 14 days has passed. We still have not got approval mails from post office in out new place.

So, today I called VSC. Since we do not have home phone at current time, my wife could not call by herself at home. I used my office phone and checked her case (pretending her in her name). Unfortunitely, the representive lady said I was lying to the government and would be charged, then quickly hung up the phone.

I feel a little scared now. Is this a real lying? Will it be recorded or charged and influence our 485 cases?

Please give some words.

Thanks!

I think it will be OK. Did she know it's you, the applicant's husband? If yes, I think she will understand this. If not, who they are going to charge?

yes, thats right.

First of all, why did you lie? You could have just called VSC and asked about your wife's case, you are the primary applicant right? you can check the status of your dependents.

oxa1,

How did she know in first place that it was you and not your wife ( I understand that she will be able to figure out a difference between a male voice and female voice)?
Second is if you ever get anything in that respect from USCIS, you can tell and that you didn't have phone and your wife came to your office to check about this by calling USCIS.
If for some reason you accepted in the call that you were the husband and you were lying, then they migh take action against you (may be warn you). But you haven't committed any big crime or you haven't murdered anyone. I think you will be fine.

If you just said you were your wife and she said you are lying and hung up I don't think they can do anything.
Atleast one lesson learnt here, never lie to sensitive issues.

This guy pretends to be his wife and gets caught and you think the reprenstative is not properly trained !!!! WTF . How dumb can you be to try pass off as a women ?
Privacy is important part of personal information. You cannot access even your spouses information without her permission. The representative did her job perfectly fine.

she probably just tried to scare you with the legal stuff...

I fully agree. The last sentence should provide some consolation to this guy (oxa1).

who cares what she felt?
she doesn't need to be impolite...she can bloody well maintain her professional courtesy and say the same thing professionally...

That's not the point. You may be punished for taking illegal actions irrespective of somebody's politeness or non-professional behavior. Good manners is a separate questions.
