Chat User : Hello, Ms. Murthy. Is it ok to keep calling the INS center to find out the status of a case?

Attorney Murthy : As long as you call the automated line it is okay. If you keep speaking with an officer, they make a note of each time you call. They have told us in AILA meetings that if a person calls too often and wastes their time, they will delay processing that case!! Not kidding.

Is this true for checking online and AVM. coz I check my status may be 5 times a day online and couple of times using AVM. I know it sounds crazy...

Thanks

RE:AVM, Online

To my knowledge, as long as you are not asking for a human voice on the other line(INS), you can check the status any number of times.

well, this is for old phone service. Right now, if your case has not passed processing time, the operators will not send request to service center, so the service center will not know your inquiry.

They are threatening us so we won't make calls.

Interesting observation - people who always frequent this web-site are always the last to get approved. Is it because of Murphy's law or is it because a lot of people here call the BCIS frequently?

I think this chat was dated March 4th 2002.

Now after the new number we are speaking only to telephone operators and not the officers

These operators are as good or as bad as AVM

It is illegal, isn't it ?

Even delaying our cases more than 180 days is illegal. Nobody question them!!!!

We are at their mercy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In case if you followed my case, I made atleast 10 enquires includes written, NCSC, local INS office etc., I asked IIO about this question, they told me as long as it is genuine cause they don't mind answering n' times.

Your situation is different, you lost RFE letter , so multiple inquiry is fine. But most of us call BCIS if they feel dejected or bored.

It is not only illegal but also intimidation, isn't it ?

I'm surprised that they can threaten anyone infront of attorneys.
