FP Walk-in @ SJC

Hi,
I read several posts where people mentioned they had their FP done prior to the appt date. I am expecting a FP notice @ San Jose DO and have the following questions:

1. Do they entertain walk-in @ SJC DO ?
2. Any special requirements to qualify for walk-in ?
3. Any where to call before that, or we literally walk-in ?
4. Any specific time-of-day when they accept walk-in @ SJC ?
5. Any pros/cons of doing so ?

Thanks
cd

I have reasons to believe that early FP walk-in do not expedite one's case. Couple of years ago, it was a different situation when N-400 adjudication was taking much longer. However, due to the current fast turnarounds, early walk-in by a week or two seems to have no impact on the processing time. I have seen posts where people have done early walk-in and are still waiting for their IL while other people whose PDs were sooner then the early walk-in folks, got their IL already (hence my belief that early walk-in does not expedite the case).

Real e.g.,
- App 1 with PD of August 18 and FP date on Sept 22 got their IL on Oct 23 for ID Dec 03
- App 3 with PD of August 29 and FP date on Sept 26 got their IL on Nov 04 for ID Dec 09
- App 2 with PD of Sept 03, early walk-in on Sept 22 got their IL on Nov 04 for ID Dec 15

The above dates are actual dates reported by forum members. I know of quite a few other cases where early walk-in did not impact their processing time (when I have some more time, I will look up their user-names and posts)

To answer your questions

1. Do not know...
2. No special requirements. Just take your IL, GC and DL/ID card.
3. You literally walk-in. No reason to call before you go.
4. Anytime they are open. Check your ASC's schedule so you don't end up going on the day they are closed.
5. From my point of view: Pros - You get the feeling that your case will move faster in the system. Cons - Since IL will not move faster, you will have to wait longer to get your IL. This will also get you more worried that your IL is taking longer than other folks who did FP around the same time as you did (but their PD will be before yours). I personally would be more depressed/worried/tensed if I felt like my IL is taking longer compared to others.

Thanks for the detailed response.

Also, would they allow our infant inside with us, or should I start looking for a baby sitter ?

When I went for my FP, I saw a family with their kids with them. The FP process itself takes no more than 5 minutes.

Nope, no idea. Sorry. However, I am fairly certain that you can take your kids with you. You can always call the ASC and ask them if it is OK to take your kids with you.
