How do they process family cases?

I\'m wondering how INS process the famaily case?! Shouldn\'t it be processed at the same time? since we send only one copy of fax return and marriage certificate etc... But if only one family member does FP, will they process the person\'s seperately or wait for all member\'s FP? If they have to wait, why not send the FPs togetther???
