Hi,
I got my FP notice and the appointment is tomorrow. During the FP mania last year, I did not get one.

How early should I arrive at the FP place? The usual 15 minutes before or do I have to line up and hence be there early enough, like 1 hour before?

I just sent my RFI back last week and then I received the FP notice.

My ND is July 2000.

My experience

Lee
I can only tell you my experience when I did my FP during the last FP mania. I had an appointment at 8:00 A.M. on 08/17/2004 (In Milwaukee, WI local USCIS office) . I didn't want to be late so I went there around 7:30 A.M. I saw there was a line of about 30-35 people already ahead of me. The office door wasn't even open and we were all waiting out side in the damn cold. They didn't even opened the door until 8:30 A.M. I was so pissed at myself to be there early but nonetheless once I got in through the security check point. They gave us a number and my number was called within ten minutes. FP took only 5 minutes because the lady had to do it twice. First attempt wasn't good. I asked what's next but they couldn't tell me anything. People were fairly polite.
This is just my experience, I'm sure different people have different experience at various locations.
Good luck tomorrow and don't forget to report back.

Mine was in San Jose,California. My appointment was at 11:30 and I was there at 11:00 and there were 10 people ahead of me and the whole process took around 40 minutes. The actual finger printing is only 5 minutes.

Good Luck

Hello!,

When I was called for fingerprinting on 2001, I remember that my appointment was at 1:00pm but I showed up at 12:30pm. Nobody was at that time so they let me pass. All this was done in Houston,TX. The fingerprinting by itself takes 5-7 minutes. I saw a lady out there that was having problems with the fingerprints so the official kept cleaning her hands one, two, three, even four times. She took like forever to be done. At the time of leaving I remember also seeing a man been told to come other day ( he was given a priority paper), because the tip of his fingers had some cuts.

I came two weeks early

I actually came two weeks (Davie, Florida) before my appointment and told them that I can't come in two weeks. I asked can I do the fingerprints now and they said sure, get in the line. I was done in 20 minutes (3 minutes for actual fingerprinting).

If you are suprised by their efficiency just bear in mind that this is not USCIS but another agency that USCIS subcontracted to do fingerprinting.

I did my FPs last week at the Maryland office. My appointment was at 11:00, I got there about 15 minutes before. There were lots of people waiting, and I was done within 2.5 hours.

8AM on Saturday.
Arrived 20 min earlier, there were already about 30 people outside the door in a line.
As I understood – everybody was given an appointment for the same day and time.
When the door opened we were invited in, one after another. The officer at the door checked IDs and appointment letters and gave people applications to fill up.
After the application was done we had to turn it in to another officer in exchange for a number and then sit and wait to be called.
Total waiting time ~ two hours
Total FP time ~ 10 min. Could be a lot faster, if the technician, who took my fingerprints, had more knowledge of the keyboard. She was just staring at it, looking for the right letter and then typed my info with her one finger and lot of mistakes that I repeatedly had to correct her.
The good part – FP are taken electronically these days and if done incorrectly the computer gives a signal to redo it right there, and after it’s all done – the supervisor comes and check your prints and all entries in the computer one more time.
The officers and technicians were also polite and nice to everyone that day.

FP Notice Question - UPDATE

I just got back from my FP/biometric appointment this morning.

Total waiting time: 1 hour 15 mins.

Everyone was polite. The security guard was even humorous.

In the waiting room, they turned on the TV and they put the X-Men VCR. After that movie finished, the supervisor took out the VCR and replaced it with another movie 'The Odyssey'.

And then my number was called.

My actual fingerprinting was done in 5 minutes. They also took the picture (digital). The lady then told me to look at the pic to see if I like it. She said this to me exactly: "This gonna be on your green card for 10 years. If you ain't like it, I'll take another one for you".

The weird thing is: For my wife - the technician told her that her fingers were dry. So it took a little longer for her. The technician said she was gonna send it through anyway but she told my wife not to be surprised if she gets another notice in the future.

Has anyone experienced what my wife experienced?

Same thing happend to me Lee

Lee,
They told me the same thing that my middle finger was dry. When she told me that I shoved my dry finger right up her ass which did the trick and fingerprint came out perfect..... :D
Just kidding.....

Punjabi,
How appropriate for them! It was the middle finger that gave the problem, huh? :)

So, anyway - kidding aside, did you get a second notice to re-do your FP?

second notice

Actually the one I did back in 08/17/04 was my second FP but it wasn't a biometrics. Since my ND 04/02/2001, I'm sure I'll get another notice for that.
This time I'll make sure all my fingers are well moist to serve USCIS right :D
