Hi ppl,

Couple of days back i had posted requesting all to post their FP experiences at ASC, Newark. Nobody shared. Anyway here is my experience.

FP:Scheduled for today at 9:00 a.m
Started from home (Edison,NJ) at 7:10 a.m.
Reached Commerce St, Newark at 7:45 a.m.
Parked at a Parking lot on Commerce St (very close to the ASC). There are a lot of parking garages. Also there are meter parking on the same street but all were taken.
Got to the ASC entrance and it was closed with around 30 people (not everybody for FP some were GC renewals) in line waiting outside in the cold.
They opened the doors at 8:00 a.m. and started letting people in.
They checked your FP letter and let you in. Then there is another line where they again check your passport and FP letter and give you a pad with a form on it and let you into the office. Nice and warm inside. Filled the form for me and me wife and then got into the line that said FP line.

Was called and they checked the notice and ID(passport) and checked my hands. Then was given a number and asked to have a seat. My number was called in 5 minutes and a gentleman escorted me to his table.

I noticed that there were 2 kinds of FP being done. One was computerised and one on a piece of paper. Well I was called by a gentleman who had the old paper thingy. He scanned the barcode on the FP notice and my info popped up on his computer. He then printed out a sheet and then did my FP on that sheet by rolling each of my finger in ink first and then into nice squares on the paper. Did with all fingers and thumbs. Then did all 4 fingers of both hands together. Went to a lady and showed her the results and came back to take my right ring finger and the pinky finger again. And then said i am all set. Gave me back the form that i had filled when i entered the building.

Wife went to a computerised FP and told me the process is same except its taken directly into the computer without ink and after scanning the finger the computer says pass. She was done soon too.

Were out of the building at 8:50 a.m.

Hope this helps all the Newark,NJ FP people and will encourage others to share on this wonderful board.

hey joinedision -

Am in Edison too and will be FPed on 12-Jan. One Q I have is what kind of info is needed in the form you filled b4 being FPed? Do I need to carry any documentary evidence to support the details furnished in that form (like birth/marriage certs, degree certs etc?) I asked this Q b4 but never got an answer...

Thanks in advance...

Form Details

No you do not need any other documents. The FP notice said take this notice and an ID (passport,Licence,etc..) and that is all i took. The form had you to put your name, address, phone number,SSN, DOB, place of Birth, height, weight, haircolor, eyecolor, citizenship country. Hope this helps.

few questions to joinedisn.

Hey joinedisn,
Thanks for the very valuable information. I have few questions.
1. Did you and your wife receive a single FP notification or one each. I have received the notification with my name on it yesterday, and I am not sure when we are going to receive it for my wife, if at all we are going to receive one more for her.
2. Is the passport only form of identification they accept from H1B holders? My wife and I sent our passports for H1 revalidation before I started receiving the EAD, AP and everything.
3. How long does it take to receive the FP approval notice.

Thanks a lot.

Ans : We received seperate FP notices. You should receive one for your wife also if her 485 is filed. We received it the same day in the mail but two different envelopes, one addressed to me and the other to my wife.

2. Is the passport only form of identification they accept from H1B holders? My wife and I sent our passports for H1 revalidation before I started receiving the EAD, AP and everything.

Ans : Read on your FP notice. They say an ID is required and they have mentioned drivers license in there. I had the passport so showed them just the passport. I think Drivers license should do too.

3. How long does it take to receive the FP approval notice.

Ans : I am not sure what an FP approval notice is...well if you meant 485 approval notice then it all depends on the INS. VSC is currently processing Mar\'01 and my RD: is July\'01 and if they keep up the pace then probably 3-4 months from today without any RFE or interview transfer.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info.

Hey, thanks for the info. again. Regarding FP, I was asking about when we would know if our Finger Prints were OK.

Questions to 485_MD_10022001

I am in the same boat. I called INS VSC (at 802-527-4913) to check the FP notice for my wife. It says that it was mailed out on the same date as mine. I think we should wait for couple of days. Still, I need to find out if Driving License ID would be enough for Identification purpose for FP. Can you share your information once you get something about it.
Thanks.

my wife got her FP the next day after I got mine. I am not sure about the ID yet.

Still its not clear if we need to take our passports for identification. To be on the safe side, we are trying to get back our Passports from the Department of State, in the middle of visa revalidation process.

Passports maty be required

Folks

When I went for my FP in Newark,NJ, I showed my drivers license, but the INS agent insisted that he see my passport. Luckily I had mine with me and I was able to get my FP done.

I suggest all of you should carry it with you when you go for FP

Yes. Passports may be required though they may not insist on them after seeing your other IDs (Drrver License etc.).

Anil Singh, When did you do your FP?

Hi joinedisn,
Thanks a heap for all the information. I went for the FP on Jan 11 and found the info very useful. My wife and I had the same experience (my wife\'s FP was scanned and mine was through the age-old paper-thingy mechanism. I am curious about any time delays involved when they take the fingerprints on paper.. Can you please update this forum when INS receives the FP results from FBI and updates their AVM?

Only thing I want to add is: if your appointment is at something like 11.00 AM, they don\'t let you in until it is about 10.30 AM. I saw a few people being turned away when they showed up early.

Thanks again.
