Form N-400, part 7, questions A, B, and C

Hello all,

My wife is filing her N-400 – it has been 3 years since she received her permanent resident card.

My question is regarding Part 7 on N-400.

On Questions A and B, it is asking for how many total days and trips of 24 hours or more have been spent outside of the United States during the past five years.

However, on question C, it is asking for the list of all trips of 24 hours or more outside of the United States since becoming a lawful permanent resident.

Because my wife is filing based on 3 years as a lawful permanent resident married to a US citizen (me), if she were to fill out these questions, then that means the total number of days and trips on questions A and B will NOT equal to the ones listed on question C.

Will there be an issue if there is a difference between the two areas in terms of number of total trips and total days outside of the U.S.? What have others done?

I would appreciate any help on this. Thank you!

Hi nkm-oct23 -- is this what you or others you know did? Filled them out independently even if they did not correspond? It just seemed it would look a little odd if the numbers do not equal with each other.

Numbers won't match because they refer to 2 different time periods. Why should they match?

IO will probably ask you how many trips in the last 3 years and then change the answer during the Interview. At least that's what happened to me.
A different IO may not have the same approach so just answer the questions as asked on the form. Let the IO deal with the discrepancy as they see fit.

If you are applying based on 3 years of marriage, add up only the days in the past 3 years, not 5 years. And exclude any days spent before becoming a permanent resident, if applying in the 90-day period before the 3 year GC anniversary.

However, on question C, it is asking for the list of all trips of 24 hours or more outside of the United States since becoming a lawful permanent resident.
List all those trips regardless of how long ago one became a permanent resident. But for the above total, only use the last 3 years.
