Forgot Fingerprinting while leaving US

Last week 1/6/07 my inlaws left for India from Chicaho Ohare airport. They forgot to the do the US-VISIT exit procedure i.e fingerprinting and picture, they have not overstayed thier authorized stay. Also they have 10 yr multiple entry visa. It was a honest mistake, has anyone else had similar exprience? Would it affect thier future entry in to the US. Is there any steps we can take before hand to correct the situation.

Those guidelines are for failing to turn in an I-94, but the concept is the same.
