Hi guys,

I remember reading all your posts that you are in a similar situation as mine. My mothers visitor visa has been rejected for the 3rd time now. No reason.
I dont understand this. She did not want to go, I forced her to go and try to get the visa because I wanted her to come here and stay with us for some days. She had gone to Bombay and the officer was also rude, when she asked the reason for rejection.

I wrote a mail to Senator Frank Lautenberg.

Questions :

Is there anything that we can do?
Has anybody contacted the senator before and had any response?
Will it help if she goes to some other embassy, either Delhi or Chennai?

Any help, suggestions will be very welcome because I have nowhere else to look for help other than this forum.

thanks

did you mom come here before

in other words, does she have a US visa on her passport before. or is this her first time applying for an US visa ?.

What I recommend (if this is her first time), to contact your local senator's office and explain your situation and also indicate that your mom's stay may be temporary and explain with reasons that she will return before I94 expiry date. This may help his office draft a letter that your mom could take to the consulate.
good luck

Visitor VISA policy is worse than USCIS

Senator's letter may backfire sometime. However, it does not matter after 3rd time and you should give it a try - if you want to.

I have seen this happening so many times with parents - that I have started hating this country.

In the long term, I think we should take up the issue to the white house. In the case of parents(its a special and the most precious relation in the world), they should accept some type of bond and allow the visit.

But hey - this is a material country and there is no place or worth for emotions here.

Thanks,

She was applying for the first time. Yes, I have written to senator Frank Lautenbergs office. Hope for the best.

Believe in self,

yes, this is the most precious relationship, thanks for your consolation.

Thanks

capitalist country...

In a captialist country you would get captialist behaviour, nothing more nothing less. We are seeing this in GC adjudication ( bigger the company, more employees, more money...) a faster adjudication.

I had written to Canadian Embassy in New Delhi for issuing visa for my wife in 1992. They contacted my wife in Bangalore and asked why she hasn't applied for visa. Australian Embassy also issued visitor visa without any trouble in very short time.

so the moral of the story is that if one needs compassionate from government agencies, then socialistic country is the place.

You would loose nothing by getting senator's help at this stage. All the best.

I dont think senators can help u in visa affairs outside US.
I believe only president bush and secretary of state Mr. Powell
have authority to overule immigration officers in visa matters.

Try contacting state dept with some reasons like old age of ur
mom and reasons ur in ability to visit her because of ur job.
Good Luck.

i dont mean to sound negative but am simply statting facts. i know of a friend whose mother is a widow and both her sons (including my friend) are in the US. one has a GC and the other is close to getting one (both independent apps). she had also gone to the mumbai consulate and was rejected 5 times. first time she was told that since she is widow and both sons are here, she will immigrate eventually. the next four times no reasons were given. they had also sent senator/congressmen letter, other 'plea' letters...nothing availed. finally, the sixth time, like a stroke of luck, without rhyme or reason, they approved her!

i dont know what you want to infer out of this...the facts are there and you can infer/analuze as u see fit. IMHO, they have a discouragement policy for ppl like this and think they will go away if rejected enuff number of times and then maybe they get compassionate later on?

notsolucky,

i dont know what ur situation is ...whether mom living in india alone...other siblings in US, etc. and also u mentioned she is tired of making trips to the consulate and i dont know if she is up for more...

having our parents with us over here for a short while is an amazing experience for us...i dont know why this special bond is not given any special treatment?

good luck! and remember keep trying..u never know what works.
