I picked this up from another discussion forum where a good samaritan using the handle Jane and done this research. I thought I will place this here as well for the benfit of people like me who did not know abou it.

(1) Obtaining CAIPS notes will NOT cause processing delays.
(2) If you feel that your points were borderline or there were some points in question, the CAIPS notes will tell you how many points you've been initially assessed with and therefore will provide an indication of whether you should submit more supporting material etc.
(3) The notes should inform you of the bring-forward date (i.e. the date your file is bookmarked for processing if it is not processed sooner).
(4) There may also be notes indicating a favourbable impression or that an interview may be required etc.
(5) Canadian citizens can request notes for $5 - so if you know a Canadian get them to do that for you rather than going through an expensive agency.
(6) However, the notes are somewhat "coded" so you may need translation of certain shorthand messages
I have found two websites that seem to give reasonable options. They are the first two that show up if you do a google search on "CAIPS notes", and the first gives the procedure for getting a Canadian friend or relative to request the notes.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any information on official Government of Canada websites to verify the information discovered elsewhere, so be careful before spending alot of money.
