Follow-to-join - how to file and taxes

I'm starting a new thread since follow-to-join thread reached the point when it's unreadable.

I'm waiting on my I485 to be aproved (EBGC), got married to a girl on J1 after the I485 was filed; the girl has this waiver or whatever it is that allows her to change the status without leaving the country.

1. How do I apply for her GC? Here http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/appproc.htm
they're saying that you have to get I-824 approved (2-3 years) before filing I485, is that correct?

2. She's on J1 which means that she's releived of all federal taxes. Has it changed since she got married to a person on AOS? If no, we'd like to postpone filing for her GC for as long as possible, for how long can we put it off?

Thanks a bunch.

From your post it looks like she is already in US. And if that's the case, you don't need to go through FTJ.

File I-485 instead. Also, you don't need I-824 in this case.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Yes, my wife is in the US. At what point do I have to file I485 for her? Do I have to do it immediately after approval of my I485? She'd like to stay on J1 for some more time since she's exempt from federal taxes...

yeah dude that the wrong form

even with that if you read it you still have to file the i-130 first.

since she is in the US follow our advice and do it the regular way.
