Folks who have applied for a passport -- please answer

Friends,

When we apply for a US passport after naturalization - we have the option of applying at a post office. Does the post office not give any receipt that we have submitted the application? When I went to the post office and did an expedited with overnight delivery (express mail) - the post office person did NOT give me any receipt and also the express mail did not have any tracking or confirmation on delivery. Is this standard? I am worried now that I have NO proof of having submitted the passport; and will also not have any proof that my application with the original naturalization certificate has reached the Paspport department appropriately or not.
Please help.

If you sent it express mail, they should have given you a tracking number. I got a receipt, but it was because I paid with a credit card, and, if I remember correctly, it was just a regular credit card receipt.

The Post Office is *very* good at deliverying mail, particularly something like a passport application.

Express mail ALWAYS have tracking numbers. Look in your payment receipt whereon you will find the codes.

I paid by check and did receive a receipt that showed the amount I paid for and also the tracking number for expedited shipping.

I also received the form that the lady at the Post Office filled out for expedited service.

Don't worry too much, I have never had any issues with the Post Office. I'm sure they are very careful about someone's passport's application.

Thanks Flydog, equate and happigal.
In addition to the express mail confirmation number in the receipt did the post office give you any confirmation or receipt that they have taken your passport application?

I do not have the receipt of express mail payment (and hence do not have any tracking number); and I also did not get any receipt or confirmation that they have taken my passport application. Hence asking you guys. In hindsight it looks stupid on my part to have left their facility without any receipt - but I am stuck with what it is now. Please respond.

Thanks a lot.

That was a bad service by your post office. Even a local Burger King always give a receipt. They should definitely have given you a payment receipt as well as a passport application acceptance notice. The latter also includes a tracking code for the return mail when the passport office mail you the passport.

My case status was not showing for a month (although it reached their office the next day after mailing). I was getting worried. Finally it showed up today(for details see the expedited passport thread). I did have all the receipts (for the monetary transactions) from my end. However, I did call the post office where I applied (after I saw your post), to check if there was any record of my applying, sure enough the post office had the records. So OP, do not worry, the post office appears to keep track of all the applicants. You can check with the Post office you applied.

I meant the online status showed up today (finally):)
Before, it was saying - no info found. I talked to them today (since I am travelling in about 5 weeks) and need to get the visa. They hope to get it done by next Fri, if not asked me to call them.
