Hi, folks,
I'm a graduate student. I probably won't need to look for jobs for another 3 years. I'm just wondering if I need to apply for I-765 (empolyment authorization). Is it the case, once you receive green card (conditional or permanent), you do not need to use EAD? I know people may think it doesn't hurt to apply in case I need it but $180 are a lot of money for a poor graduate student. Any suggestions?
Thanks for replying.

If you are absolutely sure that you are not going to work till you receive GC, you can save your $180.

But having EAD has other advantages too, like; it can be used as an ID if you don’t have one and one can apply for SS card/DL with EAD etc.

You don't HAVE to apply for EAD. It's optional. If you don't need to look for a job right now, it's better to save money. I know what it is, to be a poor student :)

Do you work on campus and get paid? This part makes me so confused, as a F1 student, it's ok to have salary as long as it's a campus job. But during the AOS period, technically you are not a F1 student anymore. Can you still get paid with no working authorization?

thanks for the replys. I'm an F-1 student and get paid as a research assistant. My file has not been out yet. Just wondering whether it's fine to work on campus in the process of status change. If not, should I apply for EAD to be able to work on campus? Thanks.
