FNU problem

Hi,

my name in passport is as follows:

Surname : blank
Given Name : Jayakrishna Gopalakrishnan

I have an F1 visa stamped. In the visa,

Surname: Jayakrishna Gopalakrishnan
Given Name : FNU

I understand from the Chennai Consulate website if Surname is blank in passport, the visa will have the whole given name in the Surname Section and FNU in given name.

My problem is that in my I-20 issued from univ,

Surname : Gopalakrishnan
Given Name : Jayakrishna

Now, at port of entry will the difference in my name in visa and I-20 create a problem?

Please advise.

it shd not create any problems to you at the port of entry.

at the max., u might have to explain the issue - but they don't ask u abt that cuz they must be aware of all these things.

however, to avoid any further troubles like getting ur drivers license n bla bla bla - make sure u enter ur FIRST name and Last Name as you wanted in I-94 cuz that would effect ur name appearance in SSN records.

I had the same issue and had to go to SSN office and USCIS office for few times
