We finally got my PR and SIN card. We are planning to fly Toronto from US for 2 days. I am few questions:

1. Does officer at US airport takes out I94 from passport if flying to Canada and we have ticket confirmation for coming back in 2 days?
2. What does US officer check except Passport and Canadian PR card before boarding plane?
3. What does Canadian officer check at Toronto airport except Passport and Canadian PR card? Do we need to carry our SIN card also?
4. What does Canadian officer will check while boarding plane for USA? I have valid approval notice/I94 and expired H1 visa on passport. I know expired visa with valid approval notice/I94 works when you come back by drive but not sure by plane.
5. What does US officer will check in US? Will he issue new I94? Does valid approval and expired visa work here?

Thanks,

1. Does officer at US airport takes out I94 from passport if flying to Canada and we have ticket confirmation for coming back in 2 days?

- Remove I-94 from the passport. If the airline person asks you, tell him/her that you need it to come back after 2 days. You will have no problems. (I had done the same thing in the past).

2. What does US officer check except Passport and Canadian PR card before boarding plane?

- when leaving US, there is no exit control. The airline person will check for your cdn status before giving you the boarding pass.

3. What does Canadian officer check at Toronto airport except Passport and Canadian PR card? Do we need to carry our SIN card also?

- They check for your residency - will ask you if you live in the US, when do you intend to return and so on...you need not show/carry your SIN card with you to enter Canada. It has no value as far as entry into Canada is concerned.

4. What does Canadian officer will check while boarding plane for USA? I have valid approval notice/I94 and expired H1 visa on passport. I know expired visa with valid approval notice/I94 works when you come back by drive but not sure by plane.

- again, there is no exit control in Canada. The airline person will check for your valid visa/I-94 before giving you the boarding pass.

5. What does US officer will check in US? Will he issue new I94? Does valid approval and expired visa work here?

- You will not be issued a new I -94 since you already have a valid I-94. Valid I-94 and the expired visa works and it is called the AVR - Automatic Visa Revalidation.

I came back from Canada and it was cool. No need for valid visa on passport if you have valid I94,approval notice and expired H1 visa on passport.

Hello Rahul,

Congratulation on your safe return. Could you share some of your experience like what happened on your way back. Who checked your return papers and where, what questions they asked, what happened after you landed back in the US. Also, which airport did you land at.

Thanks,

Stoned!

Please provide more info

Rahul,

Could you please provide more info about your trip?

What questions US immigration officer asked you when you were coming back? what documents did you have to show to them? Did you experience any issue using the AVR rule?

Where did they check the I-94 card, at the canadian airport or at the US POE?
Thanks,
Haider

Rahual Please Provide Detail

As Far As My Understanding Is Concerned Usa Immigration Is Done In Canada Not In U S A And One Get New I-94 While Departing From Canada To U S A .

Also Rahual Please Explain Did U Get The New I-94 (white Card) Or They Just Attach The Same I-94 From The Approval Notice When You Came Back To U S A

Please Write In Detail About Your Recent Trip

Immigration check happens in Canada for US. The US officer at Canada airport gave me new I94 as per approval notice date. They did not take anything back (old I94) and did not ask any question. Just asked where are you going in US?

After landing in US it's like local flight.

When I came from Canada to US by drive once. US side did not issue any new I94 and did not take anything.

You are okay with expired Visa with valid approval notice and I94.
