flying to India after 26 years - questions

The first time I flew was from India to USA when I was 5 years old. Everything was a blur then and I scarcely remember anything at all. That was the very first flight of my life. Now 26 years later, I have my American passport, so I will be flying to India again. (Yes indeed, some people take a long time to become American citizens). I\'m a little hesitant about flying to India though. Life in America has spoiled me. I never traveled out of Wisconsin all these years. I was never on a plane (never needed to fly).

Question - are the toilets on planes clean? It might surprise people, but this is the most important variable that decides whether or not I make a trip to India this Summer. In fact, it is the only determining variable. Like I said, I am spoiled. (I admire you people who sweat it out).

Second question - which airline has the cleanest toilets? (It doesn\'t take a genius to guess that I am paranoid about dirty toilets).

Third question - can someone recommend a good travel agent who can offer very low fares to India.

Thank you all!

My friend

If you are really so spoilt, please don\'t visit India. Afterall you\'ll be better off in Wisconsin itself. BTW, India is much more spoilt than how it was when you left. So things may be lot worser wherever you go.

If you are still decided about going to India, take Lufthansa. They are not cheaper but still the toilets will be lot better. If you still insist on cheaper fare, take Air India from NY ( But beware of toilets ).

BTW, travel to a third world nation requires lot of attitude. India has lot of great things; But being paranoid, travellers like you are most likely to find the filthier side of life out there alone.

Enjoy your trip and have fun.

Do you think this posting reeks of an imposter?

Why would this guy not ask his parents for that info? After all if he came here when he was 5 years old, I don\'t think he came here by himself. By that logic if he did come here with his folks then they must\'ve visited India during his growing years and must be knowing the ropes reg. conditions in India and travel there.

Hey Wisconsin bud.. r u 4 real? If so, why can\'t u get this info from your own folks?

My 2 Cents

Well if you think of Airline toilets they will be clean but beware dont flush out while sitting on the commode. There was a case in Newspapers that the lady could not get out who did this and has to be separated after landing in USA.
When you are going to India think of good food, travel and visiting family and friends. Dont think of toilets and other stuff.

I recommend Delta/Lufthansa/

Stock up on diapers. U should be fine.

Toilets in India are like WI. You will feel right at home. Have a pleasant trip.

Your sheer ignorance is downright shocking!!!

I haven\'t met any Wisconsinites yet during my 8 years in the United States. But it seems like there are certain people in this country that are no better than ignorant Indian villagers. Well, on second thought... the ignorant Indian villagers are not as picky as ignorant Wisconsinites! You might want to reconsider your trip to India where you probably don\'t "fit-in", and rather try visiting either Greenland or northern Alaska. Take care!

more from spoiled-in-Wisconsin

I just realized that if I open my mouth in India, I am likely to offend people. I was just asking which airlines have the cleanest toilets and Indians on this forum are offended already!! So it looks like people are going to say to me in India "Hey, who do you think you are? You think you are American? You think you are better than us??".

Then again, from what my parents had told me, people are exceptionally nice in India, exceptionally welcoming, highly forgiving of errors by guests and strangers, and world-known for their hospitality, friendliness and warmness. It is said if extraterrestrials were to choose a spot to land, they would land in
India because people are so welcoming and hospitable there.

I\'m confused now.

No wonder they call us ABCDs (American-born confused desis). And I\'m not even American-born.

Take one suitcase full of toilet paper

Take one suitcase full of toilet paper. You will need it.
If you try to buy them in India, you might end up with sandpaper instead. So beware!

No Title

My dear Spoiled in Wisconsin,
My advice is don\'t go. I am not offended or any thing like that, but I don\'t think you will find "cleaaaaan" toilets and that is the focus of your trip. People in India however hospitable donot give much thought to their toilets as don\'t live IN them!

Why dont you Carry a portable toilet with you .

Look man I am not being hard on you . I understand you need clean toilets. But the fact is , you really should not worry about toilets in the Plane. Keep in mind only 200 people may use them during the flight.

But man , if you ever step foot in a public toliet , in India , you are in for a surprise, you will take the next flight home, and maybe pee or whatever only when you get back in US .

Trust me man , if you want clean toilets , ask someone to manufacture a portable toilet-in-a-suitcase & that is the only solution.

Wisconsin cold will be more bearable for you than the stench from a public lavatory at the side of a road in India. I have had to stop my breath at a toilet , since I had to pee , and that was the only toilet around, believe me man all the chemicals( sulphur) whatever I dont not know , that are ther in pee , had formed layers and everything there was rottiing there. I had to walk in Pee , I threw my shoes when I got home. BUT THIS IS NOT EVERYWHERE , THER ARE SOME DECENT PUBLIC TOLIETS , BUT AS I SAID I WAS IN A HURRY TO GET RELIEVED.

After reading your post , I would suggest you do not travel to India, if you do get a portable toilet-in-a-suitcase manufactured for you.

I just cant stop laughing at this idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GC Despo This is nothing

Go to the topic : Questions about *real* Indians & chineese .

There is a real whimsical nut . Check his topic out. Do reply to him.

Better yet, do not spend...

your time replying to these kinds of posts. Ignore this and the Badminton nut from NY. These may not even be legitimate questions. They most likely are pulling your leg and laughing at you for responding to them.
This guy from Wisconsin says that he lived in Wisconsin for a FULL 26 years and yet has not been out of Wisconsin. Knowing Indian families\' penchant for sightseeing its unimaginable that they never went to Disneyland, Niagara Falls etc.
Less said about the Badminton nut from NY, the better. He makes a general and sweeping statement with the sole aim of insulting Indians and Chinese in the US and then says he does not mean to insult anybody.
These guys are just itching to provoke responses from us. We have had enough experiences with such nuts on the CSC I-485 board. Folks on that board know now to ignore such posts. They have developed an instinct to sift the bogus posters from the ones with genuine questions. Ignore them and they will eventually get bored and get scarce.

Message for JoeF from another Wisconsinite

JoeF,
Please keep flying over Wisconsin. The less people here, the better the place will be.
We may not have summer all year round but all we need here in Wisconsin is beer, brats and cheese.
