Fist semester Registration on F1

I remember there was a rule long time ago, where an F1 student can enroll only one subject the first semester.
This law existed to help students to get familiarize with the new place.

Does that law still exist?

My cousin came to US on F1 last week. Can he registor only one subject.

Hi,

New rules doesn't allow you to do that. If you are on F1 you have to take minimum 9 credits in case you have assitantship else u have to take 12 credits to keep your status active. Else when you apply for OPT/CPT INS creates problem. If you are taking only one course then you have to take full time student certification from the department and which need to submit to the ISSS of school else you will get problem in future.
