First time H1B stamping in Canada

My I-797 will be valid on Oct. 1 and I currently work in Canada (i.e. this is not a change of status). When can I have the visa interview? I called the info line twice. One guy told me that I could get the visa at any time but the visa won't be valid until 10 days before I start to work. The other guy said I cannot get the visa stamped until 10 days before Oct. 1. Which is correct?

What's gonna happen if I book an appointment in Aug., go to the consulate, and be rejected because they don't accept the case until late Sept? Should I take a chance?

the first one

i wud go with the first advice.......

although you can get the visa stamped in advance, you cannot enter more than 10 days before the start of ur job......This is what I have known so far....BUT its always better to double check this with the consulate website.
