Hello Gurus,

Me and my wife become US citizens recently :) . I did get my passport and need to apply passport for my wife and our son.

My son (12years) has his first name swaped with last name, but middle name is intact. I just saw copy of my son's I-485 application it was mistake from our lawer's office while filling form . I did sign it so I share the blame.

His birth certificate says : Alpha beta Gama
his Green card says : Gama beta Alpha

Will that be a problem while applying for his passport ?
If yes How do I correct it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am not one of the Gurus but I suspect making an infopass appointment and discuss it with a USCIS officer would be best. Given USCIS love of forms, I am sure there is a form to fix this. :)

If your son is now a U.S citizen, then his greencard isn't even valid anymore, right?? They don't need to see a greencard to make him a passport.

Yes they do, if the son is deriving citizenship from the parents. The son needs to have a valid green card and a birth certificate in order to claim US citizenship.

National Passport Center customer service is very helpful and friendly. I suggest you call them and get the info directly from horse mouth. What might be issue in future though (as far as USCIS is concerned) is when you request certificate of citizenship for your kid. USCIS system is probably tracking your son details with the switched name.

Green card lists name as :
"LastName, FirstName MiddleIntials."

What is your son's correct Lastname, Firstname, middle name?

Good Catch. But some birth certificates do list family name/surname first. OP need to confirm in clear terms as lastname, firstname, middle instead of using alpha, beta, gamma.

Hopefully, OP wont realize that their own names were switch on GC

Friend,

I just went through a similar experience with my son, but not did they mess his middle name, they added a suffix to his holy name. I walked into the national passport agency(NPA) in DC with his birth certificate and had the name corrected within 3 hours. If you can't walk to a NPA, then go to any post office with a newly completed passport application, in the form there is a portion which allows you to make necessary correction. Good luck, for me I didn't need to fill the form as the NPA can just the birth certificate to change on their computer system. Do this change before 90 days is over because it won't cost you a dime, after 90 days there is a fee...:)

Good luck and the NPA people are excellent and I have high respect for their quick turnaround
