Fingerprints (or biometric) notice for EAD renew

Does everyone get a Fingerprints (or biometric) notice for EAD renew (employment I-485 based)?

I previous renewed EAD twice. Neither one got fingerprint notice.

Did the rule change recently?

If you e-filed. You do need to go for fingerprinting and picture.
If you apply by snail mail then no need for fingerprinting, you need to send pictures.

My wife and son had done it both ways before.
