Fingerprint + Test done in Maryland in local office

I had my fingerprints done this morning at my local INS office at Glemont MD and also had the Test done - which i passed indeed!!!

The Testing Officer gave me a Test sheet with 10 questions of multiple choice answers and informed that i had to get 6 of the questions correct in other to pass the History test. After completing the History test, she asked me to write down a dictated sentence (no problems with this). She then informed me that i had passed the test and printed a certificate of completion of the test. She said i had to take it to my interview at Baltimore to prove that i had taken and passed the test. Said the certificate cannot be reprinted and that i should keep it safe and not lose it.

She claimed that Maryland is the only state where you can do the Test at a local INS office.

Next step is to wait for the interview, the testing officer said between 1-2 months, i should receive a letter.

I start to hear that more often lately that you can take the History/Civics Test right then and there where you get your FP taken.

Ladybuggy ! ;)

This is NOT a new rule/procedure; rather it's been this way ever since in MD. Actually, things are a bit different in MD district office compared to any other USCIS office in the nation. In MD, Naturalization applicants can take a test for their knowledge on US history and civics at the SAME TIME of appearing for fingerprinting.

Two facts to remember-

[1] This is available only in MD.

[2] It's the choice of applicant whether s/he would like to take that test at the time of fingerprinting or at the time of interview.

By the way, MD was the only state in the US wherein a case for AOS by virtue of being married to a US citizen needed to be filed at Service Center than at local office (as per previous rules on filing). Thus, things are different there than other USCIS offices. Why? Nobody knows.

Interesting, I don’t know how did I miss out on that? My FP was also in Baltimore and no one asked me to take the civic test…man, I am just out of luck everywhere, huh? :(

This combined FP/Civics test may only be available in MD, but I'm not certain its available at all MD fingerprinting locations.

Curiously, despite me living in Maryland, and therefore being processed through Baltimore DO, I was sent to Dover, Delaware for my FP appointment. No option for civics test there...
