Fingerprint quesion

Fingerprint is done usually how many days after I-485 is filed? Does USCIS give an appointment date for FP or the applicant needs to make the appointment for FP? How does it affect if I cannot go for fingerprinting on the appointment date given by USCIS? Is it possible to re-schedule earlier or later? Is it really worthy to cancel pre-planned travel by paying penalty just in order to get fingerprinting done asap?

I got my FP notice about 2.5 months after filing I485. They give you a time and date, but you can cancel and reschedule if you're unable to make it. It is your choice whether or not to cancel your trip for FP, but personally, it is easy enough to make another appointment and I don't think a short delay getting your FP done will affect your I485 processing time, unless you're going on a month-long trip.

I received my FP notice in 10 days after my 485 was filed this Oct. FP notice will have the date/time and place for FP. Notice also contains information pertaining to re-scheduling. If you wish to, then, you just need to fill the bottom portion and mail it to the address provided.

myslm, How far apart were your I-485 receipt date and FP appointment date? I just want to get an idea of an approximate time frame of my FP if I can calculate that from my I-485 receipt date.

My 485 RD is 10/21/04 and FP date is 11/18/04.
