Finger print

Does any one know if there is a difference of finger print using ink or scaner? We went for finger print yesterday and they asked me doing finger print using ink and my wife doing finger print using scaner.

What was the finger print code on your finger print notice? Did they also take your picture? I went for my finger printing on Wednesday and my wife's yesterday and noticed that all code 3 finger prints were done on a machine along with pictures and code 1 was either taken on a machine or using ink with no picture. I may be wrong.
