Finger print for EAD.

When I applied for my 485/PA/EAD, I did not give any finger prints.
I saw a friends EAD card, and noticed that the card has the index finger print on it.
Is it mandatory to give index finger print when applying for EAD?

I called National Service Center and they told me not to put finger print and told me to just put signature.
