Dear all,

Immidiately 5 hours after I got my visa,I made my way to Texas.I am now in the land of many opportunities.

I am highly planning to join my parents from the country where they are living as refugees.Could you guys please guide me how to sponsor refugees as a green card holder. Please tell me if there are also other alternatives as well.

Thanks in advance

Tazmania is right. The only way you can bring/sponsor your parents into the U.S is when you get your U.S citizen, which you can apply after 5 years being a Permanent Resident in the U.S. It will be a family based immigration.

Only 5 hours ?? wow ....... did you have a personal jet waiting for you at the consulate where you had your interview ,LOL ? Well i also think you need to consult a legal practitioner regarding your intention to sponsor your parents .An imigration lawyer may have a better explanation regarding other possible options that we members of the forum may not know about.
Best of luck in the so called land of opportunites.I do hope you discover the opportuinites soon.

Thanks.

Hi nati332001,
Even though you might not be able to sponsor your family yourself there are other options.
There are very many NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) in the US that specialize in refugee re-settlement. Most are located in larger cities in the US. Find one and pay them a visit.

Anyway, if your family have refugee status (UNHCR) these NGOs can work the system to get them here. Since you are now in the US your role would be to push the process through(or as we say it in my native country - "you are the one to knock on doors"). Stick with it till your family is re-settled. If one NGO can't help, move on to the next one.
