Filling up N-400 form

Hello,
Can anyone tell me what should we write on the the section 7A where it says 'How many total days did you spend outside of US during the last 5 years' ?? Is it the sum of all the trips (days) or just the max of that??

Please advise ASAP.

I put in sum of all days outside of US.

plus count any partial days in the U.S as days in the U.S (i.e., if you left at 2pm on Thu, then you spent Thu in the U.S)
