Filling the forms

I downloaded the latest forms from the USCIS website. And they are mostly in fillable PDF format.
But in some of the fields, it does not allow me to type in the information. In such cases, is it OK to handwrite the information after taking a printout?

It is always okay to hand write any field, even if it is fillable.

And usually when a box doesn't let you enter stuff, it's because you need to check the previous boxes in a certain way or answer the previous questions in a certain way before the field will be enabled.
