khiboy,

to be honest, your post puzzled me extremely. when you landed in canada, did you know the residency law? i mean, i'm confused, are you saying you broke the law but you didnt know, are you saying you broke the law knowingly and now want to admit to it, or are you saying you dont even know the law?

till early 2003, *every* canadian landed immigration was supposed to be living in canada for 183 days in a year. And if they did not, they could be barred from canada. were of aware of this? and if you were aware of it, do you know want to admit to CIC you broke the law?

khiboy, i dont mean to come across as a rigid live by the rule sort, but the reason i'm saying all this is, even though you are playing around and doing what thousands of people have done, your innocence and lack of precaution is baffling.

to be direct and plain, what you did was against the canadian residency law, so now, you can't tell it to CIC unless you don't mind their taking away your status.

the above is solely from my info.

Priya ,

I really appreciate your patient and sincere reply.

Yes I have void the 180 days rule like lot of other people. But now with new law since anyone can stay outside for 3 out of 5 yrs and the LAW IS RETROACTIVE , Shouldn't the new law applies to those stayed longer than 180 days?

Is it anything wrong in declaring that? I was in USA.

I landed in Feb 2001 and in USA since last 2 years at one stretch.

Please advise how should I do fill out my form. Ofcourse I dont wanna loose my Canadian PR

thx again

khi boy,

if you dont have stamps of entry into US, just give those dates as a canadian stay. you will get that time towards your citizenship too. since the new law legalized end of june, you can go back from june 2002 to 6 months and add that time in US if you want because the earlier part of the year can be in canada. in other words, you landed feb 2001 but you can say you left canada for US by dec/jan 2002.
though that is fiscal yr, and if they count by calendar yr, then you can also claim to have left canada by sept 2001 for US as you already for that yr would have spent the required days in canada.
but i'm not sure if it's calendar yr or fiscal yr.

hope that helps.
