Filing wife's I-485 at a later date

Hello All,

My Labor got approved last week and am getting ready to file my I-140 and I-485. But the problem is that my wife is on vacation in India till end of Aug and I do not want to wait for another two months. My lawyer told me that I can file for my I-140 and I-485 now and then add my wife to the I-485 case when she returns from India. He personally did not see any problems with that.

Is it safe to play this?
 
Can I file I-485 for children and the wife later

Do you know, can I file I-485 for children and the wife later? ( in 1-2 month after I will file my I-485).
What documents should I submit with their applications. I did not found any answer to this question at www.bcis.gov.
