Filing LC with Company you dont work

Hi All,
Can you start your GC process and file LC thro' some other Company B,eventhough your H1 is with Company A,which you are working currently.
I heard from somebody that you can file for a GC,thro' a Company B,without filing H1 with that CompanyB and continue your GC process while still working with Company A.
Also,in that case,can you use the LC filed with Company B,for Seventh year extension,still working with Company A??
