Filing I-485 before I-140

I am in a difficult spot. My LC got approved recently and I am ready to file I-485 and I-140. I want to make the 17th deadline.

My problem is my employer (person signing the I-140) is out of the country so I cant really submit the I-140 on time.

Is it absolutely necessary to submit I-140 and 485 at the same time? Can I submit 485 to make the deadline and then later submit 140?

yes you need to fill both together or the i-140 before the i-485 not the other way around
